Open studio will be available as needed. The workshop is 4 days; the first day is the écorché and day 2 & 3 students will have a live model and day 4 to complete the hollowing out and touchups. This class is taught by working sculptor Eduardo Gomez Rojas. The class is a step-by-step demonstration of the techniques involved in sculpting the human head in clay. The class will cover basic anatomy of the head and its anatomical proportions. It will also cover anatomical issues related to aging, race and facial expressions. Students will learn how to use the shape and the planes of the face to obtain a general likeness and study different ways of modeling the individual parts of the head from the nose, lips, ears and eyes, etc. Basic aesthetic issues involved in designing a bust sculpture will be covered as well as how to prepare it for firing or molding along with different mounting options. Surface finishing techniques are covered in an additional class after the piece has been bisque fired. The course includes 25 pounds of clay, one bisque firing, the cost of the live model, and use of an armature and all the basic tools needed to sculpt the portrait. This class is for all levels and meets for four consecutive days as follows: Day 1 is to create an écorché. An écorché is a very important learning experience. Students will create the skull and learn to apply musculature to the skull. This aspect of the workshop is foundational, and students come away with an understanding of the structure of the human head and if time allows, students will form their basic skull in anticipation for the live model on days 2 and 3. The class meets for four days at 10 am to 1 pm and students may continue to work after class without the instructor or the model in an open studio setting. This class must have a minimum of 6 students to run. Please register by making your deposit and the final payment will be collected the day class starts.
