6-Week Hand-building with Cathleen

Service Description

Fun-filled hand-building class to create project-oriented and textural artwork with owner Cathleen. This class is geared for the beginner and for those with some experience. Students are encouraged to come in with their own ideas and the instructor will teach how to achieve their vision after the weekly lesson. Best practices will be discussed, as well as the tools and methods to achieve a successful build. Themes and assistance with execution will be provided along the way. Some project examples include boxes with lids, large-coiled vessels, carved forms, forms made with templates, and textural vessels, hump and slump molds, cylinders, mugs, butter dishes, baskets... dream it up and we will create it. This class has an Open Studio associated with it and students are encouraged to come in weekly to work independently on projects. All work is to be glazed by the final week of class. Open studio dates/times will be determined at the time of the first class but generally are slated for Mondays 12-3 pm. Weekly projects are demonstrated, and participants are encouraged to build the projects demonstrated as they are chock full of skill building exercises, so students learn to create independently. Clay must be purchased at the studio. There is an extra cost for pieces measuring larger than 12 inches. In the event of severe weather or unforeseen incidents, classes and open studio time will be made up when possible.
