Hand-building with Cathleen

Service Description

Fun-filled hand-building class to create project-oriented work with studio owner Cathleen. The focus will be on a variety of builds that teach many skills. There will be 5 builds with the last day of class dedicated to glazing. See examples below of recent work. Students learn the basics of making functional/decorative forms from clay while creating some advanced projects. The goal of this class is to teach students techniques to get them on their way to creating independently. For example, if you see something you wish to make, you will have the skill set to be able to construct it. A slab roller will be used. Those that have experience on the wheel may make elements to their work and combine them. If you've never touched clay before or you are experienced, you will learn some new ways to create pieces that you can call your own. Students learn glazing and surface decoration techniques and come away with artwork created for use or decoration. This class has an Open Studio to allow students to work independently during regularly scheduled business hours. Work should be completed timely, no new builds the last week and all work should be glazed by the final week of class. There are no makeups for missed classes and open studios do not carry over. Students must purchase clay from the studio, which includes glaze and two firings per piece.
