Hand-building with Theron

Service Description

Fun-filled hand-building class to create project-oriented work with Theron Mattick. The focus will be on a variety of builds that teach skills and techniques and are student-interest driven. (NO CLASS February 14th) Students learn the basics of making functional/decorative forms from clay while creating some advanced projects. The goal of this class is to teach students foundational techniques to get them on their way to creating independently. For example, if you see something you wish to make, you will have the skill set to be able to construct it. A slab roller will be used. Those that have experience on the wheel may make elements to their work and combine them. If you've never touched clay before or you are experienced, you will learn some new ways to create pieces that you can call your own. Students learn glazing and surface decoration techniques and come away with artwork created for use or decoration. This class has an Open Studio to allow students to come in weekly to work independently. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of open studios to complete work timely in this course with all work glazed by the final week of class. Open studio will be Thursday evenings or Saturdays for 3 hours. Additional Open Studios can be purchased at $65 per 3-hour session. Open studios cannot be carried over if missed. Students purchase clay from the studio, which includes glaze and two firings per piece.
