Service Description

This course is for youth with or without experience with hand building with clay classes at Treasure Coast Pottery. Youth ages 7-17 and up are welcome to join Artist & Instructor Cathleen Sullivan in a relaxed learning environment moving through hand-building projects with clay. Cathleen and the studio are Step Up Certified to teach Homeschoolers. Students must be registered through our website. We provide you with an invoice with all the pertinent information needed for reimbursement. While I have experience working with special needs children, I am not a special needs teacher. I wish to work with all children if there are no behavioral issues. Kindly call and speak with Cathleen before registering your child so I can be prepared to teach all children with the appropriate adult/student ratio. Should discipline become an issue, a parent will be asked to remain to shadow their child. If you believe your child needs shadowing, please be prepared to join them for the first class to be sure we work together smoothly. My priority is to ensure every student gets the attention they deserve. All participants will create various projects from clay using hand building techniques. Each 2-hour session will be guided for any child looking to try working with clay or build upon existing skills. Students are guided through 3 projects during the first 3 classes, and they are off two weeks to allow for work to come through the kiln and then they return the sixth week to glaze all three projects created the first 3 weeks. All materials are included. After the last class students return in approximately 2 weeks to pick up their completed work. Students will be notified when work is ready for pick up, or you may contact the studio at any time for the status of your piece. Deposits are being accepted for this class and payment in full the day class starts. Parents are welcome to attend the class with their child for the same tuition. Parents are welcome to drop off their child(ren) or remain in the front-end gallery only. Kindly refrain from roaming the studio as members are working or other classes are being taught. POTTERY WHEEL: I accept homeschoolers into our adult 6-week wheel classes, and they are reimbursed through Step Up. Homeschoolers must be aged 16 up or of large stature, maturity and have the attention span for a 3-hour class. Call studio to discuss.
