Service Description

Beginner/Intermediate Wheel Class with Theron Mattick (3-hour instruction with 3-hour open studio per week) Total of 6 classes (18 hours of instruction + 18 hours open studio time) Beginner/Intermediate wheel class is for those who are interested in exploring traditional ways of forming clay into bowls, vases, and mugs while working on the potter’s wheel. During the six weekly sessions students will focus on learning the basic techniques of forming clay into a vessel: wedging, centering, opening, raising, shaping, and trimming the clay. Students explore making and attaching handles and surface decoration. During the second half of the class, students will be introduced to various glazing application methods. New skills and techniques will be taught to advance students. Students need an apron, towels and a tool kit. Clay must be purchased at the studio which a bisque and glaze firing. Glazes are provided by the studio. Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate for messy work. All work should be completed within the 6-week timeframe. Open studio is once per week and will not carry over. Cancellation policy: Cancellations receive a 50% refund or postponement to a later class, if cancelled 48 hours prior to the beginning of the first class.
