ANIMAL SCULPTURE A Three-Day Hands-On Clay Sculpture Workshop Instructor: Jimena Román Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10:00 AM–1:00 PM each day Discover the art of sculpting animals in clay during this immersive three-day workshop with artist Jimena Román. Under Jimena’s step-by-step guidance, students will learn how to build and model an animal sculpture while developing an understanding of proportion, anatomy, form, movement, and sculptural techniques. Over the course of three days, you will create your own animal sculpture in clay. Jimena will guide you through developing the basic form, establishing proportion and structure, and gradually refining the sculpture with anatomical details, surface texture, and individual character. Clay and bisque firing are included for one sculpture measuring no more than approximately 10 inches in its largest dimension. This workshop is designed for a manageable, tabletop-sized sculpture that can be safely dried and fired in the studio kiln. Oversized sculptures cannot be accommodated. The three-day format allows time for the clay to firm between sessions, making it possible to continue building and refining the sculpture while maintaining its structural integrity. No previous sculpture experience is necessary. All skill levels are welcome! Bring something to drink and perhaps a light snack. After the workshop, your sculpture will be carefully dried and bisque-fired. Finishing options, including glazing, staining, painting, or polishing, will be discussed during the workshop. A glaze and finishing session will be scheduled after the sculptures have been bisque-fired, with the date to be determined with participants. Any additional materials fee associated with a particular finishing method will be announced in advance. However, if students wish to finish their work with studio glazes and underglazes are included. We will notify you when your finished artwork is ready for pickup.
