Boat-Shaped Vessel Decorating Workshop
September 21 & 23, 12-3 PM with Cathleen
6 spots left
Service Description
Boat-Shaped Vessels from Decorated Slabs Create a free-form boat-shaped vessel using pre-decorated slabs of clay in this fun, expressive two-session workshop. In the first class, students will create and decorate a large clay slab using printmaking, mark-making, texture, colored slips, and underglaze techniques. Cathleen will share some of her own surface-design methods, encouraging students to build layers of pattern and visual interest before the vessel is formed. In the second class, students will use their decorated slab to cut, shape, and construct a three-sided boat-shaped vessel. We’ll begin by drawing out the form on paper, then cut the clay components, connect and shape the pieces, and add finishing details. Students may also add bold colored slips, black underglaze marks and patterns, and, if time allows, carve through the surface layers for added depth and texture. Some clay experience is helpful, but not required. Each session may run up to approximately three hours. Please bring a bottled water and hand towel. All other materials are provided. Clay, bisque firing, glaze, and glaze firing are included. Finished work will be ready for pickup in approximately 3–4 weeks. Students will be notified by email or text when their pieces are ready.
