Beyond Beginner Wheel Throwing — 4-Week Skills Course Taught by Cathleen Sullivan, owner of Treasure Coast Pottery Includes a 25 lb bag of studio clay Ready to take your wheel skills beyond basic bowls and cylinders? This 4-week course is designed for students who already have experience on the pottery wheel and want to refine their technique, improve consistency, and explore more developed forms. Cathleen especially enjoys throwing and altering vessels, and students will have the opportunity to explore ways to bring more movement, personality, and intention to their work. Each session is 3 hours long and will include 2 hours of instruction, demonstration, and guided work, followed by additional studio time for students to continue practicing, refining, or developing their pieces. Because this is a beyond-beginner class, instruction will be tailored to the experience level of the students enrolled. Possible areas of focus may include refining thrown forms, improving proportions, trimming, lidded vessels, handles and attachments, altered vessels, double-walled forms, glazing, and surface design. Suggested projects may include lidded jars, covered bowls, mugs or handled vessels, small pitchers, altered vessels, double-walled vessels, serving pieces, or coordinated functional forms. Final project direction will depend on the skill level and interests of the students in the class. This course is for student that can center clay and throw a basic cylinder and bowl.
