Sgraffito Surfaces — Two-Session Decorative Hand-Building Workshop $110 | All materials included Discover the beauty of surface design using the timeless sgraffito technique—an expressive process where imagery is revealed by carving through layers of color to expose the clay beneath. In this two-session guided workshop, students will design, build, and decorate a finished ceramic piece while learning both structural hand-building and advanced surface techniques. This format allows time for thoughtful construction and intentional decoration—an experience rarely available in a single-session class. Session One — Building the Form: Students will learn to use the slab roller, cut clean forms, and build a platter, tray, or plate using a hump mold. You’ll also practice mark-making and carving techniques on a provided tile to build confidence before working on your final piece. Session Two — Surface & Sgraffito: Once your form reaches leather-hard stage, you’ll apply underglaze and carve your imagery using guided sgraffito techniques. No drawing experience is required—stencils and imagery are provided, and personal interpretation is encouraged. This workshop is open to all levels, including beginners. Instruction is step-by-step, supportive, and designed to help you leave with a finished piece you’re proud of. All materials included — clay, underglaze, glaze, and firing. Finished pieces will be glazed by staff and ready for pickup after firing. Please review the Cancellation Policy on the website prior to registering.
