Fall Jack-O’-Lantern Pumpkin Workshop Enjoy a laid-back, creative clay experience with family and friends! This beginner-friendly workshop is open to students with or without previous clay experience. Workshop length: Approximately 2–3 hours Youth ages 7–15: $65 Adults ages 16 and older: $85 Youth are welcome when accompanied by a paid, participating adult ages 16 and up. See below for samples created by students in last year’s workshop. Students will hand-build a festive jack-o’-lantern pumpkin using the pinch-pot method. Add a whimsical slab-built witch’s hat, a traditional pumpkin stem, or create an entirely original design! Personalize your pumpkin with carved or embossed details and textured surface decorations. Hats can be textured with lace, and pumpkins can be embellished with leaves, coils, spiders, vines, or any delightfully spooky adornment you can imagine. Come with a theme in mind or discover your design as you work—the instructor will help you bring your ideas to life. Students will learn basic hand-building, slab, texture, attachment, and decorating techniques while enjoying some relaxing clay-time fun. These pumpkins make wonderful decorations for a festive fall table, entryway, or Halloween display. At the end of class, students will select a glaze color. The studio will glaze and fire each piece, with finished work ready for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks after the workshop and before the holiday. Handmade pottery goes through several stages of drying and kiln firing. Although occasional cracking or other unexpected results can occur, the instructor will teach proper construction techniques and the studio will take every reasonable precaution to help each piece fire successfully.
